Arizona. Bold. Forward. is the largest and most visionary capital expansion project in Mayo Clinic history. By 2024, Mayo Clinic will double the size of the Phoenix, Arizona campus. Through a combination of new construction and additions to existing facilities, Arizona. Bold. Forward. will provide infrastructure to support activities across the Practice, Research, and Education shields, to increase patient access and capacity, accelerate new platforms for innovation, and provide more opportunities for research and education. Mayo Clinic in Arizona is the No. 1 hospital in the state as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

Meet the Speakers

Richard J. Gray, M.D., is vice president of Mayo Clinic and CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, the No. 1 hospital in the state as ranked by U.S. News & World Report for the last eight consecutive years. Dr. Gray works with Paula E. Menkosky, chief administrative officer, to provide leadership and strategy, define and implement Mayo Clinic’s operational plan, and expand Mayo Clinic’s leadership in Arizona and the Southwest. Prior to being appointed CEO in 2019, Dr. Gray served as chair of the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Arizona, chair of Mayo’s Breast Specialty Council, and vice chair of the Department of Surgery in Arizona.

Mayo Clinic Expansion

The expansion adds a new six-story patient tower and eight operating rooms to increase patient access to Mayo Clinic care, doubled laboratory medicine space to increase test volumes, a new 24-bed observation unit and more.

New Emergency Department

The emergency department will double to 56 rooms and have the ability to care for 75,000 patients each year — strongly positioning Mayo Clinic in Arizona to provide immediate access to emergency care and respond to community health crises.

Mayo Clinic Building Vertical Expansion

This four-story, 217,000-square-foot expansion will support future growth in areas like transplant surgery, cancer, cardiovascular disorders, neuroscience, pulmonary medicine and regenerative medicine.

Research Building

The 150,000 square foot Integrated Education and Research Building offers new and expanded space for students and researchers, advancing the ingenuity of teamwork and diverse thought that has been the cornerstone of Mayo Clinic’s success since inception.
